BBQ Shrimp Grits
This Southern-inspired dish features smoky-sweet BBQ plant-based shrimp served over creamy grits. This pairing of hearty textures and vibrant taste makes it a crowd-pleaser for any table.

Ingredients
Yield: 4 portions (about 1 ½ pounds shrimp, 24–40 pieces)
2 tablespoons plant-based butter
½ cup sweet onion, minced
1 tablespoon garlic, minced (about 3 cloves)
1 quart vegetable stock
1 cup instant white corn grits
½ cup shredded planted-based jalapeño jack–style cheese (or cheddar-style)
1 pound Bayou Best Plant-Based Shrimp (6–10 pieces per serving)
1 teaspoon prepared BBQ seasoning
1 tablespoon oil
½ cup prepared BBQ sauce
½ cup fresh parsley, chopped
½ cup green onion, sliced thin
Salt and pepper, to taste
Yield: 25 portions (about 9 pounds 6 ounces shrimp, 150–250 pieces)
13 tablespoons (about ¾ cup + 1 tbsp) plant-based butter
2 cups sweet onion, minced
¼ cup + 2 tablespoons garlic, minced (about 20 cloves)
6 quarts + 1 cup vegetable stock
6 ¼ cups instant white corn grits
3 ¼ cups shredded plant-vased jalapeño jack–style cheese (or cheddar-style)
6 pounds Bayou Best Plant-Based Shrimp (6–10 pieces per serving)
2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon prepared BBQ seasoning
¼ cup + 2 tablespoons oil
3 cups prepared BBQ sauce
3 cups fresh parsley, chopped
3 cups green onion, sliced thin
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
1. Start the Grits Base
In a saucepan over medium-low heat, sauté onion and garlic in butter until softened.
2. Cook the Grits
Add vegetable stock and bring to a boil. Slowly whisk in grits and simmer 4–5 minutes until creamy. Stir in cheese and season with salt and pepper. Set aside for service.
3. Season the Shrimp
Lightly coat the shrimp with BBQ seasoning and set aside.
4. Cook the Shrimp
In a skillet over medium heat, warm the oil. Add shrimp and cook 3–4 minutes per side, until lightly browned.
5. Glaze with BBQ Sauce
Add BBQ sauce to the pan, tossing shrimp for 1 minute until coated.
6. Plate and Garnish
Spoon grits into a shallow bowl. Top with 6–10 shrimp, garnish with parsley and green onion, and serve hot.
